Early family life.
Riya Dev Varma born on 24 January 1981 in Calcutta, West Bengal to a Hindu family her father Bharat Dev Varma is a descendant of the royal family of Cooch Behar and mother is former Bollywood actress Moon Moon sen.
*Riya is granddaughter of famous Bengali actress Suchitra Sen.
Her paternal grandmother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar , whose younger sisterGayatri Devi was the Maharani of Jaipur . Her paternal grandmother Indira was the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda . Riya's maternal great-grandfather Adinath Sen was a prominent Kolkata businessman, whose father Dinanath Sen - a relative of former Union Law Minister Ashoke Kumar Sen - was the Diwan or a Minister of the Maharaja of Tripura. The sisters are credited on-screen under their mother's maiden name, although their official papers carry the surname Dev Varma. Riya studied high School in Loreto Hose, Kolkata and completed collage in Rani Birla Collage, Kolkata. After that she she went to study Fashion Design at the National Institution of Fashion Technology, same time she also did numerous of designs most of the clothes that she wears in films and commercials.
Riya got training in Kathak Dance under Vijashree Chaudhury. She has been taken training Kickboxing and Belly dance.
Career. Riya sen first played a child role in the film Vishanya in1991, where she played the role of the young Pooja Bedi. At the age of 18, she appeared Tamil film, TajMahal.
She played a major role in Bollywood movie Style (2001) directed be N. Chandra.
Riya’s next success was Jhankaar Beats, she played a small glamorous role along side Shayan Munshi, Juhi Chawala, Sanjay Suri, Raahul Bose and Rinke Khanna.
In 2005 she appeared in Shaadi No. 1, this is a comedy based movie about modern marriage. Later that year she had small roles in Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Qayamat and Plan ), attention was drawn to her item numbers in all three, especially the one in Qayamat that featured her in a bubble-bath.
Riya performed another item number in James. She also took part in dance number for Heyy Babyy.
She also acted in Non –Hindi film also. Her first English movie was it was Raining That Night. She also appeared in Bengali Based English film The Bong connection.
