RajiniKanth is one of the leading actor in Indian film industry. He is a great media personality and cultural icon. There is a saying about Rajinikanth personality in southern India, recited as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Rajini is a Super Star.

Rajini, the real mantra of Tamil Nadu. There are fan associations across Tamil Nadu dedicated to him. Many more than for any other Tamil star, past or present. Rajinikanth, the carpenter-turned-coolie-turned-conductor-turned Super Star says: “I couldn’t have asked God for more.”

Apart from acting, Rajinikanth also worked as a scriptwriter, producer, and playback singer. Other than his film industry career, he is also a philanthropist, spiritualist and serves as a major influence in the Tamil Nadu politics.
For RajiniKanth contribution to Indian film industry, he received the Padma Bhushan, India’s Third highest civilian honor.

Early family life.

RajiniKanth born on 12 December 1949 in Bangalore city, Karnataka, to a Maharashrta based Hindu marati family. His father Ramoji Rao Gaikwad was police constable and mother Jijabai was a hose wife. His ancestors were believed to be from a village called Nachiar Kuppam in Dharmapuri Dist. of Tamilnadu.

Rajini was the yongest of four children and has two older brothers and a sister. He lost his mother at the age of five.and he struggled with an impoverished lifestyle during his childhood.

He completed his primary education in Acharya Patasala. And he attended Ramakrishna Mission in Bangalore to his higher education. During that time, he often did odd jobs as a coolie in his community.

Before starting his career in the film industry, he had to take up all sorts of odd jobs. Between 1968 and 1973 he worked in many places in Chennai, moving continuously from Bangalore to Chennai. He served as a bus conductor for Karnataka state transport corporation in Bangalore. It was during this time that he nurtured his acting interests by performing in various stage plays.his friend and co-worker Raj Bahadur motivated him to join the Madras Film Institute and also financially supported him for 2 years during his studies. Rajinikanth completed basic acting course in 1974 at the age of 25.

Career.

He started his acting career in Kannada in the movie Kathaa Sangama, directed by Puttanna Kanagal, in 1976.During this time he was noticed by K. Balachander, he advised him to learn to speak Tamil. A recommendation that Rajinikanth quickly followed and which proved to be extremely useful in his career.

In Tamil films, he started with playing supporting roles, beginning as a cancer patient in K. Balachander’s Apoorva Raagangal (1975), who assigned him his stage name Rajnikanth. After several villainous roles, his first positive role was Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri (1979), in which Rajnikanth played a failed lover in the first half and a do-gooder in the second.

After several films in the1980’s, he played a Hindu saint in his 100th movie, Sri Raghavendra. Many others followed, among them dramas, comedies (notably Thillu Mullu, a remake of Amol Palekar’s Golmaal) and, at the end of the eighties, action-oriented family entertainers like Velaikkaran and Manidhan.Annamalai, which released in 1992, was the first Rajini film to gross almost Rs. 100 million at the box office.

Unlike the eighties, several movies during his nineties were successful, like Muthuor Basha. At 53, his Baba released amid fanfare. Although the film grossed enough to cover its budget, it was viewed as a miserable showing and fell short of market expectations accumulating heavy losses for the distributors. Rajnikanth himself returned the losses back to the distributors who had immense faith in him. The whole affair cost him dear in terms of repute of making a comeback.

Chandramukhi, a remake of the Kannada movie Apta Mitra. Chandramukhi was claimed as one of the most successful Tamil films ever as it ran in theatres (particularly in one theatre in

Mount Road

, Chennai) for over 600 days since release and still running. His next film, Sivaji: The Boss, directed by S. Shankar released in 2007.

Apart from he has acted in over 170 movies in seven languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, English and Bengali. He made his foray into Bollywood with Andha Kanoon which also starred Amitabh Bachchan but did not make as much of an impact as he had in the south. He still appeared in a few films in Hindi, such as Chaalbaaz with Sridevi, Uttar Dakshan, Geraftaar and Hum.

Rajnikanth also made his Hollywood debut with the movie Bloodstone in 1988 with much fanfare in India. However, the movie failed in the US. He also made brief stints in German and Japanese films, too. His film Muthu was dubbed into Japanese and later turned out to become a major hit in the country, ultimately creating a huge Japanese fan-following for Rajni.

He is the highest paid actor in India and the second highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie ChanRajinikanth was requested by his fans for many years to stand in the State election of Tamil Nadu, but has consistently resisted entering politics directly. But he did some indirect attempts in politics by announcing support to a Political Party in Tamil Nadu.

Personal life

Rajini married Latha Rangachari, she is an Iyengar, whom he met during an exclusive interview, on February 26, 1981, at the age of 31 in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
They have two daughters named Aishwarya Rajinikanth and Soundarya Rajinikanth.

His wife, Latha Rajinikanth, currently runs a school named The Ashram.

His elder daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, married actor Dhanush on November 18, 2004 and they have two sons named Yathra and Linga.

 His younger daughter, Soundarya Rajinikanth, works in the film industry as a director, producer and graphic designer. She married industrialist Ashwin Ramkumar on September 3, 2010.
